This one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel is handmade and hand-painted, inspired by my home, friends, and everyday surroundings.
Once the vessel is formed, I begin decorating the surface by carefully incising my drawings into the clay. After the first firing, I sand the surface and apply three to four layers of underglaze (ceramic paint) to bring the illustrations to life. I then fire the piece a second time before finishing the exterior with carefully placed areas of clear glaze (spot glazing) and a colored celadon glaze on the interior. Finally, the vessel undergoes a third firing to cone 6 (approximately 2232°F).
Each piece is a labor of love, created through a slow, thoughtful process that transforms everyday moments and memories into functional works of art.
Dimensions: Length: 8.25” x Width 5.”4 x Height: 10.25” inches
Please note: I started this piece during a class demonstration, so it is slightly heavier than my usual work.
